Time for a positive change? Become a Volunteer Community Visitor with CBCHS and give the gift of companionship! The Community Visitors Scheme (CVS) provides a wonderful opportunity to volunteer within your own community to enhance the wellbeing of an older person experiencing social isolation. Volunteers also report a richly rewarding experience in their own life.

What impact could I make?

The Community Visitors Scheme is a government-funded program that matches a volunteer-visitor with a lonely or isolated older person living in an aged care facility or in their own home. Visits are purely social, with the intention of developing an ongoing friendship and social connectedness.

How much time is required to participate?

For just an hour per fortnight, you can make a huge difference to the wellbeing of an older person. We ask that you commit to the role for at least 12 months to make it a mutually rewarding experience.

Ongoing training and support is provided by CBCHS. All volunteers are required to be fully vaccinated (including booster) and undergo a police check.

Celebrating 30 years of CVS

This year marks 30 years of the Community Visitors Scheme in Australia. To celebrate, CBCHS is planning a special event on Wednesday 18 May as part of National Volunteer Week. Save the date! More details will be shared with our volunteers and community soon!

CBCHS has been delivering the program for more than 20 years and a number of volunteers have been with us since the beginning. Stories of friendship will be collated into an e-book to showcase the valuable impact CVS has had and continues to have on so many lives. We look forward to sharing this in future editions.
